Stripe vs Ziina vs Telr vs Tap vs Mamo for UAE startups: fees from 2.6% + 1 AED to 2.9% + 1 AED, payouts, documents and which one I use by default.
For a UAE startup, headline card fees range from 2.25% + 0.50 AED (Telr's top volume plan) to 2.9% + 1 AED (Stripe and Mamo), with Ziina at 2.6% + 1 AED. On 10,000 AED of monthly sales across 50 orders, that is a spread of about 310 to 494 AED in fees. The cheapest gateway on paper is often not the best one for your product.
I run ForgeApp, a one-person AI-native app agency in Dubai, and I integrate payments into the apps I build. This guide compares the five gateways founders ask about. Fee data was checked on 17 October 2026 on each provider's own page where I could load it, and I say clearly where I could not. Prices change, so verify before you commit.
| Provider | Card fee (UAE cards) | Extras | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stripe | 2.9% + 1 AED | +1% international cards, +1% if currency conversion is needed | Stripe UAE pricing |
| Ziina | 2.6% + 1 AED | +1.5% for international cards or non-AED currencies; 5% VAT on the fee | Ziina help centre |
| Telr | Startup plan: 0% + 0 AED but 249 AED monthly. Entry 2.45% + 1 AED (199 AED monthly). Small 2.35% + 0.50 (99 AED monthly). Medium 2.25% + 0.50 (no monthly fee) | +0.50% international cards on paid plans; plans are set by monthly volume | Telr pricing |
| Tap | 2.75% + 1 AED | International card fees vary by agreement | Third-party reports, for example Ziina's comparison blog; Tap's own page did not load for me, so confirm with Tap |
| Mamo | 2.9% + 1 AED (Growth plan, 0 AED monthly) | Premium tier reported in 2024 at 2.7% + 0.8 AED and 99 AED monthly; may be outdated | Mamo pricing, Mamo help article, Nov 2024 |
A warning on sources. Ziina's own comparison page is where several of these numbers are summarised, and Ziina is a competitor to the others. I used each provider's page where available and the Ziina comparison only as a cross-check.
Percentages hide the real cost because of the fixed fee and the monthly fee. Here are domestic card fees, before VAT, for three monthly volumes. I assumed an average order of 200 AED, so 25, 50 and 250 transactions respectively. These are my calculations from the table above, not quotes.
| Monthly sales | Stripe | Ziina | Telr | Tap | Mamo |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5,000 AED (25 orders) | 170 AED | 155 AED | 249 AED | about 163 AED | 170 AED |
| 10,000 AED (50 orders) | 340 AED | 310 AED | 494 AED | 325 AED | 340 AED |
| 50,000 AED (250 orders) | 1,700 AED | 1,550 AED | 1,250 AED | about 1,625 AED | 1,700 AED |
What this shows: Ziina is cheapest at small volume. Telr's flat-fee structure costs more at the start and becomes the cheapest once you pass roughly 30,000 to 50,000 AED a month. Stripe and Mamo are the same on headline rate.
The difference between the cheapest and the most expensive at 10,000 AED a month is under 200 AED. If your product is worth building, the gateway fee is not what decides it. Reliability, developer tooling and subscription support matter more.
| Provider | Payout speed | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Stripe | Standard payouts are free, on rolling, weekly or monthly schedules; instant payouts in minutes for 1.5% (minimum 2 AED) | Stripe UAE pricing |
| Ziina | 1 to 2 business days for withdrawals up to 25,000 AED, 4 to 5 days above; one free cash-out a day | Ziina help centre |
| Telr | Listed by Ziina's comparison as 1 to 2 days; not stated on Telr's pricing page | Ziina comparison |
| Mamo | Listed by Ziina's comparison as 2 to 5 days; a Ziina blog also mentions same-day settlement options, so check with Mamo | Ziina comparison |
| Tap | Not confirmed from a primary source | Ask Tap |
Cash flow matters more for a young business than the fee. A payout that lands in two days instead of five can be worth more than half a percentage point.
This is where early-stage founders get stuck, so plan ahead.
If you are a pre-licence founder testing an idea, say so on the first call with any provider. An individual-friendly gateway may be fine for a pilot, but moving to a licensed-company account later means changing your integration or settings. Plan for that.
If you are selling a monthly plan, this matters more than the rate.
For a SaaS product, I want a customer portal where users update cards and cancel, webhooks that tell my app when a payment fails, and test mode that behaves like production. That list is the main reason for my default below.
UAE shoppers use Apple Pay heavily on mobile, so test this on a real iPhone before launch, not in a screenshot.
Stripe. My Launch Ready package includes Stripe checkout, a customer portal and webhooks, and the standalone Payments Integration add-on is 2,500 AED for the Validator or MVP packages.
Why Stripe, even though it is not the cheapest:
When I would suggest something else: if you only sell to UAE customers by card, are very small, and fees are your main worry, Ziina is the cheapest on paper at low volume. If your volume is above roughly 30,000 AED a month with a trade licence, Telr's fee structure starts to win. If you need payment links over WhatsApp with minimal setup, Mamo is built for that. If you want one of those instead of Stripe, tell me on the call and I will scope it separately, because the 2,500 AED price is specifically for Stripe.
If you are budgeting a first product, payments are one line. The full cost picture is in the fixed-price app development breakdown, and the MVP route is in how to build an MVP in Dubai.
On headline card rates, Ziina lists 2.6% + 1 AED and Stripe and Mamo list 2.9% + 1 AED. Telr's top plan is 2.25% + 0.50 AED but charges a monthly fee on smaller plans. The cheapest depends on your monthly volume and average order value.
Yes. Stripe lists 2.9% + 1 AED per domestic card transaction in the UAE, plus 1% for international cards. Business verification is required, and Ziina's comparison puts onboarding at a few days.
Stripe Billing supports subscriptions at 0.7% of billing volume on pay-as-you-go. Mamo lists subscription payments on its pricing page. Check Ziina, Telr and Tap directly for recurring billing before you build on them.
For Telr, yes: its pricing page says a valid trade licence is mandatory. Other providers vary and requirements change, so confirm on the provider's own onboarding page.
Telr includes Apple Pay in every plan, and Mamo lists Apple Pay on its payment links. For Stripe, Ziina and Tap, confirm Apple Pay setup for your integration before launch.
Stripe by default: checkout, customer portal and webhooks. The Payments Integration add-on is 2,500 AED, and Stripe is included in the Launch Ready package (65,000 AED launch price, list 75,000).
